Wednesday Feb. 15, 2023 – We are OPEN for classes.
We hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine’s Day! Now we need to work off any candy surprises we might have received – haha. The weather is chilly, but the training will be hot! Can’t wait to see everyone!
Tuesday 2-14-2023 – Closed for Classes because of bad weather.
As is our policy, when the Kent School district closes, we also close. Things might have been better by tonight, but with plunging temperatures expected and icy roads we’re maintaining our policy. Tomorrow looks to be a much nicer day and we’ll dive into training then. Stay safe and stay warm!
A lot is going on! As some of you saw, this last weekend the adults did fantastic at the Proving Grounds Submission Only Tournament. Keep an eye on https://www.youtube.com/@lionswaymartialarts for videos later this week.
This week we have classes as normal, except for Friday. No classes on Friday Feb. 17, 2023. If you normally come on Friday, please make up the classes as you can. This week, next week or whenever works best for your schedule. Sorry for the inconvenience, thanks for understanding.
Next week is Presidents’ Week, the week starting Monday Feb. 20th. We will be OPEN for all classes during Presidents’ Week. Class schedule as normal.
Now, with all the info dump out of the way, we can get back to training. We will award kids and teens that tested their new rank starting today and learning the new techniques that go with it. Adults will continue their awesome training and work some classic Judo throws and start an indepth look at leg locks. Training like champions each and every day, let’s get started!
Friday! Great week of training everyone. After those tough tests last week, it was nice to have a bit of fun with training. This weekend we have a few adults competing at the Proving Grounds Submission Grappling Tournament. Wish them the best when you see them. Starting next week, it’s back to work and sharping that steal. Have a fantastic week everyone and we’ll see you on Monday.
Wow, on Friday we had the first normal belt test of the new year. It was fantastic to see so many kids, and teens, push to take this test. Everyone did a superb job! We posted testing results in the school entryway.
On Saturday we had a children’s black belt test! So hearty young people stepped onto the mats and pushed themselves farther than they ever had before. We don’t have many of these tests, maybe one or two a year, if that. Seeing kids who have put years into training accomplish this goal is truly humbling. The results for this test will take a while, but they should be proud of the extraordinary effort they have put in! Spectacular!
How do we follow up that this week? The same way we always do—try to take over the world! Oh, wait, I mean get back to training! See you soon!

Once a test has started, late students may not be able to enter. We have a considerable number of people testing, so please be patient as we work through it!
Children (Test according to their current Rank)
White and Sr. White Belts — 5 pm
Yellow, Sr. Yellow, and Orange — 5:30 pm
Sr, Orange, Green, Sr. Green, Blue, Sr. Blue and Purple — 6 pm

Teenagers
If possible, teenagers should show up at 5 pm to help with the children’s test. If not, then please show by 6:30 pm. The teenager test will begin immediately after the children’s tests end.
All teens should show for the test whether or not they are testing. Please support your teammates and plan to be there for the entire test. Due to the size of this test, please plan for a late night.

Looks like it’s getting cold this week! Time to pump up the heat a notch with our first belt test of the year! Also, the first Kids Black Belt Test! The test will be this Friday Feb. 3. The kids black belt test will be on Saturday starting at 1 pm.
Testing applications will be sent home to all eligible children and teens starting today. All applications must be turned in by Wednesday! No late applications will be accepted. – Testing times will be posted on-line and at the school on Thursday.
Monday through Thursday classes will operate as normal.
This is going to be such a fantastic week!

Feel free to stop in and support these courageous children as they take on one of the most challenging tests of their lives!
Last full week of January! What a great start to 2023. We have some big things coming up next month, too. February 3rd will be the first belt test for children and teens this year. Then on February 4th, we will have a children’s black belt test! It’s rare we have a group ready to go and I can’t think of a better way to start the year than that! Some adults are getting ready for the first competition of the New Year too. So many fantastic things! Keep training, get ready and we’ll keep everything moving forward. Onward and upward!
